Can you hear the solitude? Help us monitor it: It’s citizen science with a meditative twist! You enjoy your moments alone in the Eastern Sierra, right? So do many others. Millions of others, actually. Every year. Well, the U.S. Forest Service wants to make sure everyone visiting our wilderness areas has opportunities for solitude. It all begins with research, and Friends of the Inyo is assisting. And for that, we need YOU! Help Friends of the Inyo conduct visitor data collection for the Forest Service in various designated Wildernesses on the Inyo National Forest. What you will be doing: Hiking…
Today, during National Park Week (which lasts from April 20-28), 68 community-based organizations are calling upon the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Forest Service and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to increase national park and federal recreational land access to immigrants and unbanked individuals. Leading this initiative are Friends of the Inyo and GreenLatinos. The organizations released a COMMUNITY SIGN-ON LETTER addressed to heads of the U.S. departments of Interior, Homeland Security, and Agriculture, and aforementioned agency leads, calling for inter-agency cooperation to: Provide an America the Beautiful Pass as a “Welcome to America” gift to each…
To qualify for citizenship, naturalized U.S. citizens must have resided legally in the country for a minimum of five years, paid taxes, kept a clean police record, passed an English language and U.S. history test, and paid fees of up to $760. Let’s welcome them as New Americans with an America the Beautiful Park Pass!
